You're Gonna Hear My Voice #Kyky #Marcus #hawkins #manfred

Who: Kyky With: Marcus, Manny, Hawkins Where: Eastern Woods When: Friday, March 7th, 872 RoK

Kyky held her new staff, grip firm enough to enjoy the solid polish of the wood but not so much that her hand couldn't gently drift up and down the shaft. As she looked ahead into the dark woods, her mind drifted back to her tutor - Bert - who had once upon a time helped rescue her from vampires and then taught her her way around this rather innocent weapon. She wondered where Bert was now…

The native Floridian hadn't actually been present when the raid on the Marauder's camp occurred. Apparently, four werewolves had arrived while she had been back in New York, pledging their lives and service to Marcus the Vile, and he had accepted them… but they'd just proceeded to get drunk and pass out on duty and had been too lethargic the next morning to even describe their robbers. All the same, great deals of their stored food was gone, weapons were missing, and all their drinking water and ale had been dumped into the dirt.

Luckily, Marcus had a thief on hand with plenty of insight - and with a trained pirate hunter at his side who knew how to track? A mission had quickly been underway, and Kyky was not going to miss out. The staff had once actually been a rifle she had bought in New York at a pawn shop and brought through the fairy circle, but the weapon had molded to her perfectly, and it was satisfying to know that there was one less firearm on Earth.

The sun was setting, which limited their visibility, but this was an ideal time to catch their attackers off guard, as the Marauders themselves had been. Time to turn the tables.

"Got your back, Manny," Kyky promised, as the small band pressed into the dark woods.

Who: Manny

With: Marcus, Hawkins, Kyky

Where: Eastern Woods

When: Friday, March 7th, 872 RoK

Manfred was an unhappy lad, he knew the group of werewolves were going to be a problem when he first laid eyes on them. But Marcus had a soft spot, or something close to sentimental feelings toward them (maybe because of Alessandra) and had except the motley creatures into his band. And now they were missing supplies, weapons, and most importantly food and water. He was of course miffed that the treasure he stole from the castle the day of the king's death had gone missing too.

"Got your back, Manny," Kyky promised, as the small band pressed into the dark woods.

He flashed a crooked boyish grin at the blonde, and motioned for her to keep her hood up. Her light colored hair was easy to spot in the growing darkness.  His boots squished into the mud, before he climbed up on some of the larger roots to travel.

Manfred and Hawkins had been fortunate not to lose their personal weapons during the late night raid. He wished he had a bow and a quarrel of arrows, but the few weapons leftover none of the regular marauders would part with. So armed only with his daggers and the knowledge and skills his parents had imparted on him he scouted ahead.

The young humanoid centaur glanced back at his sailor companion and the leader of the band of rogues.

Kyky nodded back quickly, pulling her hood up over her head. Her hair was distinctive, catching every ray of moonlight that made its way through the thick overhead branches, but the hood that hid her also cut out large chunks of her periphery. There was a reason motorcycle helmets weren't the law in her home state of Florida - sure, they protected your skull from getting smashed, but they also made it way harder to see said skull-smashing car coming up at your side. So, Kyky tried to focus her hearing as much as her sight to help stay vigilant (and tried not to think too much about broken skulls or spilled brains).

But the forest seemed quiet - or, quiet as the dark wood could be. There was the sound of the band of Marauders behind them as well as the rustling of leaves underfoot, the babbling of a brook somewhere to their left, the twitching leaves from errant squirrels and the occasional squeal of a bat. But no indication they would run into a village or even a camp…

And that made Kyky worry this was some kind of trap. But surely, the Duke's men couldn't be orchestrating such an elaborate scheme - baiting werewolves, who might have been drunk at the initial attack but wouldn't remain so after the fact - with their lord away at the king's funeral?

But, thinking politically, Kyky could see it. Rumor was that the Greek Duke had a claim to the throne, and if James Castille was chosen to take over, then the Eastern Realm was up for grabs. Perhaps there was an ambitious noble who knew that capturing Marcus the Vile would assure him the spot.

Kyky's eyes slid over to Marcus at the thought, and a wry, amused smile pulled at her lips. Whoever that ambitious noble was, he was in for the night of his life…

"No time to stop and rest," Marcus said, his voice low but stern as he came up beside Kyky. He'd been...hesitant to bring the young woman along on this particular streak of vengeance, but this was as good of a chance as any for him to see if she could hold her own weight with the Marauders or not. While he knew, given the fact that she came and went from New York fairly regularly, that she'd never truly be a part of his band of misfits, he needed to know that he wouldn't have to constantly watch her back should they find himself in a fight. And there was most certainly going to be a fight.

The pirate hunter had led them this far and Marcus could see, while this probably wasn't exactly the line of work in which he was used to utilizing his skills, he'd led them true. While no tracker, Marcus could make out tracks, broken twigs, and other small indicators that the bastards who'd stolen from him had come through here. "Lead the way, Hawkins," Marcus instructed the sailor with a nod, hand on the hilt of his sword and ready for any signs of danger.

Hawkins moved forward slowly, his eyes constantly shifting to catch any sign of the thieves ahead of them. Ever since those werewolves had shown up, Hawkins had been suspicious of them. He had seen too many sailors that acted the way they did to not be. And he had been right to be suspicious. They had fallen down on the job, and now they were missing precious food and water, not to mention weapons. And in the Eastern Forest, it was clear everyone needed a way to defend themselves.

A small indent from a heel caught his attention as they moved on, and he carefully redirected their path to make sure they stayed on the trail. As his companions continued to talk behind him, Hawkins listened both to them, and to the forest around them. Thus far, it sounded like other forests he’d traveled through, but this was one to be wary of. He’d heard too many stories about people disappearing in here, and if anything was out of the ordinary, he wanted to be ready to confront it head on if necessary.

He paused for a moment and glanced back towards the rest of the group. Kyky had been a ray of sunshine in all this mess. She was generally cheerful and well mannered, and enjoyed conversation more than anyone else he’d come across in a while. Manny, on the other hand, had been quiet for the most part, but seemed a good lad, and would hopefully be helpful to them when they confronted the thieves. Finally, there was Marcus the Vile, the warlord of the Eastern Forest and leader of the Marauders. Here was a man to be careful of. If it wasn’t for him helping them all escape from the castle a week back, Hawkins likely wouldn’t have been helping him now. But, thieves were almost as bad as pirates, and it was a good place to start getting back to work. And, if the opportunity presented itself, maybe he could turn Marcus in. There wasn’t much chance of that, but it was worth a shot.

Hawkins nodded back to Marcus, continuing his search for the trail. A broken stick with a thread from some cloth showed him the way again, and then, just hidden under some brush, Hawkins paused to collect a small dagger. He turned back and offered it to Marcus. “That look like one of yers?” Looking to Manny and Kyky, “Ye best keep close. They may not be far off now.”

Manny stopped as he adjusted his footing, the flexibility of a human foot was very different than the rigid form of a hoof. He didn’t like this and had a bad feeling that the werewolves were playing Marcus for a fool. Praying on whatever feelings he may have had for the late Alessandra to get into his good graces.

He looked over at KyKy and then back at the rough, ragtag crew of men that followed Marcus loyally for whatever reasons. His mouth quirked when he realized the blonde took his advice on covering her pale hair.

Marcus: "No time to stop and rest," "Lead the way, Hawkins,"

The leader of the marauders’ voice forced the thief to look the other way toward his fellow escapee from the dungeons of the capital. Although truthfully he and Hawkins were on different sides of the bars.

The sailor was leading the way, had insisted on it really. Like he would take on the thieves...or werewolves… on his own. He was a foolishly brave man, even when he was out of his element. They were far from any ship or water.. Other than a creek crossing their path.

Manny liked Hawkins, he wasn’t like most people who tried to pry and weedle him into talking idley. Or fill up the silence with empty words just to hear the sound of a voice. When he caught Hawkins looking at him, he didn’t know why but his mouth curled of its own accord to smile back.

Hawkins: “That look like one of yers?” Looking to Manny and Kyky, “Ye best keep close. They may not be far off now.”

The thief frowned because if you took the time to steal something you weren’t going to drop it somewhere. Even if you had priorities and needed to ditch an item, most thieves worth their merit would hide it… come back for it later.

He didn’t like it, and all his horse senses started kicking in. Manny became fidgettity and he bit his lip to control himself. “This is wrong” he said in a low whisper, looking at KyKy. “It doesn’t feel right”.

Marcus: "No time to stop and rest," "Lead the way, Hawkins,"

Kyky's head snapped up in surprise at Marcus's chiding words. She had been keeping up just fine… hadn't she? Suddenly Kyky realized that her head was resting on the fist holding her walking stick firmly planted into the ground. It was profoundly disorienting, like falling asleep in class, and she quickly blinked the errant sleepiness from her eyes and tried to pretend it hadn't happened. Act natural, she prompted herself, straightening, placing a hand on her hip, and turning her attention to Hawkins as his careful tracking uncovered a clue. A dagger - one that the thieves had lost in their escape?

Hawkins: “That look like one of yers?” “Ye best keep close. They may not be far off now.”

Manny: "This is wrong” “It doesn’t feel right”

Kyky hardly made the connection between Manny's body language and a spooked horse in her mind, but her reaction was much the same. She reached up to stroke his shoulder, reassuring, and spoke softly and in good humor: "But if we turn back, the terrorists win."

With those words, blue eyes turned to the only other in their party that would get the joke and understand its nuances. If this was a power struggle, not backing down was important… but none of them wanted to walk into a trap, and she didn't doubt Manny's nor Hawkins' instincts that they were close, and there was something fishy.

Marcus knew these woods better than any of them, so it was his call. Kyky, though, couldn't stand still for too long - the sleepiness made her head heavy, and the sweet floral scent of the forest suggested that it would be a lovely place to settle in for a quick rest. Good lord, where was her stash of adderall when she needed it...?

OOC: Kyky's getting hit first because she's smallest and therefore most susceptible, but the guys here should be feeling sleepy as well by the next round!

Marcus kept his eyes on the tracker and the way the man moved through the forest, doing his best to follow his path as to ensure they weren't making too big of a path of their own to follow. Just in case it really was a trap. As Hawkins drew his attention to a dagger. It was...a dagger. Nothing ornate or remarkable. He'd seen hundreds like it since his first time travelling to Eventyr. "Maybe," he replied to the question of it belonging to his men, tucking it in his belt as they continued on.

He fought back a yawn as the days of fatigue threatened to settle in, knowing now was not the time to lose focus. Even as Manny began to doubt their direction and Kyky made some remark about terrorist he gave a half-hearted smile to, he couldn't help but stretch his back and roll his neck. Damn was he tired...

"Let's keep moving before the youngster falls asleep on her feet," he said, nudging Kyky to force himself to stay awake and keep moving along with her. What the hell was wrong with him?!
